Allen’s success is a testament to the community spirit of amazing people who come together to build a better place for their families.
The Allen Public Library was founded in 1967 by motivated, future-minded citizens. At that time the population was about 1,000 people. In 2018, the population reached 104,636, more than doubling from just over 45,000 in 2000.
The Library’s original home was an upstairs office space at the Woodmen of the World building on Main Street in downtown Allen. It has grown from a few donated books to thousands of volumes, including books, music, videos, magazines, eBooks and eAudiobooks. Since construction in 2005, the Library has been house at its current location, 300 N. Allen Drive, its fifth home since its founding.
